Henceforth, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) would publish photographs of candidates caught in the act of impersonation during any of its examinations in newspapers and the council’s corporate website to serve as deterrent to others..

This was contained in a communiqué issued by the council on Monday, which detailed the resolutions reached by the Nigeria Examinations Council, WAEC’s apex policy-making organ, at the end of its 59th meeting in Lagos, last week.

The report read in part: “…the committee resolved that, henceforth, candidates caught impersonating in WAEC examinations will have their names, photographs, as well as examination and certificate details published in National dailies and the council’s corporate website to serve as deterrent to others.”

The committee which also described the incidence of examination malpractice across the country as “alarming”, advocated the use of metal detectors to prevent candidates from smuggling in mobile phones into examination halls.

The committee which considered reports of malpractices recorded during the 2014 May/June and November/December Examinations, approved sanctions for different individual offences.
