The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), has said that the University would be bringing its 12,650 fresh students on its internet platform before the end of the first quarter of the year.

Prof Ambali disclosed this last Tuesday (December 30, 2014) during a meeting with top management staff of telecommunications giant, Globacom Limited, in his office. At the end of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the University and Globacom for the provision of integrated telecommunications services for the University of Ilorin community.

While receiving the report of the Google Student Ambassadors Summit in Accra, Ghana, from the 2014 Google Student Ambassadors penultimate Tuesday (December 23, 2014), the Vice-Chancellor said that the massive internet coverage would afford staff and students the uninterrupted use of the facility at any point in time to communicate with all parts of the world regardless of the time zone.

Responding to a proposal on international linkage with the renowned Indian Institute of Science and Technology by the Chief Commercial Director of Globacom, Mr. Prabhat Aggrawal, who led the company’s team to the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor said that the University is always eager to exchange ideas and it never misses an opportunity to adopt best practices from around the world. He disclosed that the University already has a number of international partnership agreements with several foreign institutions in addition to having many foreign staff and students on its roll.

While speaking earlier, the Chief Commercial Director of Globacom disclosed that his personal first impression of the University of Ilorin was that of a well-managed institution, which surpassed his expectation. He added that the University evoked a feeling of nostalgia in him of his days at the Indian Institute of Science, saying that he is keen on facilitating a relationship between the University of Ilorin and the Indian Institute of Science.
