Plans are underway to bring on stream seven new programmes in the University of Jos.

The programmes include:

1) Insurance and Actuarial Sciences,
2) Estate Management,
3) Quantity Survey,
4) Banking and Finance,
5) Urban and Regional Planning,
6) Archaeology,
7) Fine and Applied Arts.

Already, a Verification Team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) has visited the University to undertake a verification exercise of the new programmes.

Receiving the Team, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Hayward Mafuyai said whenthe University receives the go ahead to mount the new programmes, every effort will be made to ensure that the programmes are amongthe best in the country. He maintained that the establishment of the 7 new programmes falls in line with the desire of the University to further impact on its immediate community by providing training in relevant fields of endeavour.

While underscoring the importance of the academicfeat achieved in the Department of Accounting, Prof. Mafuyai pointed out that the University has produced two former Directors-General of ANAN, Professor Ambrose Okwoli and the first female Professor of Accounting in the Country, Prof. Jane Ande.

He added that the University also produced the immediate past ICAN President, Professor Francis Ojaide.

He stated that the Government is taking note of these achievements and as a result, the Central Bank of Nigeria has endowed a Centre of Excellence in the University’s Faculty of Management Sciences worth 9.5 Billion Naira.

Leader of the 12 member Verification Team, Prof. T.C. Mogbo said the Team was on a national assignment to ascertain the validity of the programmes and promised that they would work according to the rules in order to hasten the process of approving the new programmes.

He added that the University of Jos has demonstrated sincerity of purpose as far as its expansion scheme is concerned and they would strive to add value to such initiative.
