Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III has appealed to striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities to call off their industrial action, while urging the union and Federal Government to address the issues.
Addressing journalists at his place in Sokoto, he said, “I believe ASUU and the Federal Government should give dialogue a chance, we have to have common ground. We callon ASUU to suspend their strike, go back to work and forthe Federal Government to call ASUU and see with all honesty and transparency what the problems are. When you are talking of negotiation, it is a matter of give and take.”
He added, “all of us will be involved because as a chancellor of one of the foremost universities in this country, I want to see education taken to the highestlevel in this country.
ASUU should see us as partners in progress”.
