Report stemming out from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) has it that the institution admit 3,322 students out of 12,904 students that applied to the institution for the 2014/2015 academic session.
RSUST Vice Chancellor, Professor Barineme Fakae, made this announcement on Wednesday at the 33rd Matriculation ceremony of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that 12,904 applicants, who scored above the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination cut-off mark of 180 percent, applied to study in RSUST.
According to him, only 3, 322 (25.74 percent) out of the number were admitted based on merit and the National Universities Commission approved carrying capacity.
He appealed to students to acquaint themselves with the Code of Conduct of the school, maintaining that everything about their (students) behavior has been spelt out in the Students’ Handbook provided by the institution.
Admonishing fresh students to take their studies seriously, the vice chancellor warned them to shun cultism, examination malpractices and other vices that could cut short their academic pursuits in the institution.
He noted that out of the 3,322 new intakes, 206 were admitted into the Faculty of Agriculture while 1,408 came into Engineering.
“Environmental Sciences has 178 intakes while Law got 263 fresh students. Management Sciences (687), Science (555), while 385 students were admitted into the faculty of Technical and Science Education,” Fakae added.
He pointed out that RSUST was implementing its Information and Communication Technology online policies so as to meet up with the global standards and added that the university had adopted a slogan known as, ‘Learn computer by the use of computer.’
The three thousand three hundred twenty-two (3,322 ) students took the oath of loyalty of the Rivers State University of Science And Technology, as the institution matriculated her fresh men.
