Nigeria Declares Thursday, May 1st Public Holiday

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday 1st May, 2014 as Public Holiday to celebrate this year’s May day.

The Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, made the declaration on behalf of the Nigerian government through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Fatima Bamidele and made available to grapevine on Tuesday.

The Minister who congratulated Nigerian workers for their resilience and commitment in the face of obvious challenges of daily living, enjoined them to support the present government in its efforts to improve the work environment and living conditions of Nigerian workers.

He further urged Nigerian workers to support the President, Goodluck Jonathan in his desire to transform the country. grapevine gathered that, The celebration for this year’s event is also expected to hold under tight security as the NLC has warned those attending not to carry any bags, while vehicles should be parked at least 200 metres away from the venue.
