Kebbi Government on Tuesday said the state polytechnic located in Dakin-Gari, Suru Local Government Area, would commence academic activities in October, the Commissioner for Science and Technical Education, Alhaji Ruwa Dakin-Gari, has said.

He said that the polytechnic would commence academic programmes with 120 students enrolled for Pre-National Diploma programmes.

Dakin-Gari also said that the ministry has directed contractors to complete their projects within the stipulated period to enable the institution to fully commence academic activities.

He said the state government has appointed principal officers for the institution, adding that the management had been mandated to commence recruitment of academic and non-academic staff.

The commissioner called on the host community to cooperate with the management of the polytechnic for academic, social and economic advancement of the area.

The establishment of the polytechnic has brought the number of higher institutions in the state to four.

Kebbi has two universities, state and federal and same number of polytechnics, the Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi and the newly-established polytechnic in Dakin-Gari.(NAN)
