Imo State University (IMSU) Owerri, has admitted 4,000 students out of 90,000 prospective Imo students who apply for the 2012/2013 session.

Speaking at the university’s matriculation ceremony on Friday in Owerri, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, noted that only10 per cent of the candidates was absorbed because of the approved admission capacity of the universities in the state.

At the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the Imo State University ,Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, charged the matriculating students to be loyal and true to the matriculation oath of obedience and respect to the authority of the University that has offered them admission.

Awuzie also urged the students to work hard and shun cultism, indecent dressing, examination misconduct and truancy, adding that the university would not condone those vices.

He equally admonished them to protect and guard their new status jealously and avoid any unwholesome behavior that may pose threat to the peace and progress of the university.

“We assure you that our staff are your surrogate parents. Feel free to approach them if confronted with challenges,” he said.

The VC also urged the parents to take special interests in the activities of their wards.

“They should seek to see your programme charts and must not abandon you to us alone,” he said.
