Professor Muhammad Nasiru Maiturare has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Niger State. The appointment takes effect from Thursday 1st January, 2015

Out-going Vice Chancellor of the University  Professor Ibrahim Kolo, handed over to his successor, Professor Muhammad Nasiru Maiturare yesterday.

Professor Ibrahim Kolo disclosed to schoolwatch.com.ng grapevine that he has secured full accreditation for 14 courses from the NUC in five years.

Kolo added that when he took over in 2010, his first challenge was the issue of accreditation as there was no course run by the university that was accredited but in 2011, the story began to change.

“None of the challenges was as enormous as the accreditation exercise for which the NUC had written a last warning insisting that the university ensured that the pioneer programmes were subjected to accreditation by February or risk sanctions.

“The subsequent NUC result of the exercise at the end of 2011 saw us having 14 of the programmes on interim status fully accredited while we received the nod to start Food Science and Technology, Science Education and History and International Studies,” he said.

The new vice chancellor, Maiturare said he would be committed to the post-JAMB screening exercise policy of the university, saying, as a former lecturer in ABU Zaria, he was in a good position to testify on the success of such exercise.

Maiturare  said he would consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor, stressing the need to pressurise the government to release the university’s outstanding N360 million.
