FUTA Immortalizes Ilemobade, Names Library after Him

The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure has named the institutions library after its former Vice Chancellor Professor Albert Adeoye Ilemobade who died recently.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebiyi Daramola made this known during a commendation Service held in honour of Ilemobade at the New Auditorium of FUTA on Monday July 27. Daramola said the former Vice Chancellor deserved the honour because of his many contributions to the Development of FUTA and the education sector in Nigeria. Said Daramola while making the pronouncement, “It is therefore, my delight to announce that in recognition of Baba’s scholarly contributions to the growth and sustainability of the development of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, the Governing Council of the University has granted approval to immortalize Baba Ilemobade by naming the University Library after him. Henceforth, the University Library shall be known and called “Prof. Albert Adeoye Ilemobade Library”.

Professor Daramola said the former Vice Chancellor, who was killed by two domestic aides on June 21, made indelible marks on humanity through his professional calling and service to community. He said the don lived an exemplary life that was completely filled with service to God and humanity and was prolific in research, productive in scholarship and reputable in intellectualism.
The Vice-Chancellor said that during the late Ilemobade’s tenure as Vice-Chancellor, he made tremendous contributions to the pioneering development of the University, committing himself to the development of the infrastructural projects necessary for the promotion of academic excellence in the University.

In his citation the Dean, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, Professor Shadrach, Akindele noted that Professor Ilemobade did not stop his contributions to the development of the Department of Animal Production and Health (APH) and the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT) he nurtured from the beginning, adding that even after retirement he remained a repository of knowledge and wisdom to tap from.

Other tributes extoling his virtues were also given by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Department of Animal Production and Health, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Student Union (FUTASU), FUTA Alumni Association, Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association and Imade College Old Boys, Association.

In his homily at the service, Ven., Prof., Emmanuel Laseinde, pioneer Chaplain of the University’s Interdenominational Chapel (Chapel of Faith), admonished all to prepare for eternity as there is only one life to live. He extolled the virtues of the departed professor saying he left his footprints in the sand of time.
Speaking on behalf of other members of the family, the son, Professor Adesola Ilemobade said in spite of the circumstances of his death, the family has chosen to celebrate his exemplary life and contributions to humanity. He thanked the University Management for the honour done their patriarch saying the family would forever cherish the gesture.
