About 63 students Sokoto State Government Girls’ College, were on Monday, rendered homeless due to fire outbreak at the female hostel, which caused pandemonium among the students.
liveschoolnews grapevine gathered that the Fire razed the hostel of the State Government Girls’ College, female hostel in Sokoto , the state capital.
The incident left over 63 students homeless while most of them also lost valuables to the fire which started at about 4:30 p.m on Monday.
Principal of the college, Dr. Fatima Musa, said the incident occurred at about 4:30 pm on Monday and that it may have been caused by an electrical fault.
She said the students lost all their uniforms, casual wears, books, food items among others.
She said the incident occurred during the evening prep.
The principal added that following the incident, the affected students were given a one-week break.
She further stated that the students would be accommodated in another hostel when they return.
“A committee has been set up by the state government to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fire. The government will also renovate the burnt hostel and provide new mattresses, beddings, blankets and other items to the victims.
“The state Zakkat and Endowment Fund has already donated N105,000 and other items to the affected students,” she said.
