FG Announce Wednesday, Oct. 1 As Public Holiday

This is to inform members of the public that the Federal Government has declared Wednesday, Oct. 1, as Public Holiday to mark Nigeria’s 54th Independence Anniversary.

This was made know to newsmen by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magaji A.G., in Abuja on Thursday.

The statement stated that the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, declared the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government.

It stated Moro congratulated all Nigerians on the occasion, and urged them to build a more united and virile nation that would be the pride of all citizens.

The minister urged Nigerians to use the period to reflect on the giant strides made by President Goodluck Jonathan in the development and building of a formidable nation.

It said Moro wished all Nigerians a happy independence celebration.

Nigeria achieved independence in 1960

It falls on 1st October every year and is also observed with unmatched nationalistic ardor throughout the country. The significance of Independence Day in Nigeria lies in the fact that it binds all the Nigerians into one chord not only within the country but also in the far off lands of America and Europe.
