EFCC Arrest Student For Defrauding A Briton Of N20m Internet Love Scam

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC have apprehended a 21-year-old student, Obiechina Chikeluba, for allegedly defrauding a Briton of N20 million in an internet romance scam.

Liveschoolnews.com.ng grapevine gathered that, Chikeluba, is a student of Federal Science and Technical College, Yaba, Lagos.

Our correspondent learnt that  Chikeluba was said to have met his victim, Kieran Oakes, on Facebook.

It was reported that the suspect, assuming the profile of an American, Lisa Jackson, entered into a relationship with Oakes, with the pair agreeing to get married. The American lady who believed she had found love in the arms of the Nigerian student would by now, be ruing her gullibility when the student  fleeced her of the sum of £54,000 (N20 millon), money she transferred to him to ensure he moves to the UK to join her.

In a release by the Media and Publicity Unit of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, through the head of the unit, Wilson Uwujaren, said the victim, after endless wait for her supposed fiancé, it dawned on her that she may have been duped, and reportediy sent petitioned to the anti-graft agency and they swung into action and apprehend the suspect while he was attempting to collect a parcel sent to him.

“He will appear in court as soon as investigation is concluded,” he stated.
