BSU Students Protest Increase In Tuition Fees

Latest report reaching us has it that students of Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, on Monday, filed out en masse to protest increase in fees by management of the institution.

The aggrieved students, displayed placards with various inscriptions such as, “Reverse this unpopular decision”, “the new fee in anti people”, “our parents cannot afford this” and “we did not bargain for this.”

It was gathered that management of the institution recently hiked acceptance fees for fresh and graduating students from 5,000 naira to 25,000 as well as fees; post UTME form from N2,500 to N3000, development levy from N10,000 to N25,000 other courses while medical sciences, law and management studies N50,000.

Others include; accreditation fees, N10,000 while medical sciences, law and management studies will pay N30,000, utility services N10,000, laboratory practical and sanitary consumables N20,000 and others

A final year student of Business Administration, Vivian Chidi, who spoke to our correspondent lamented the increase in tuition fees.

“It is too much. How do they expect us to pay this fee especially under the present economic hardship. My parents are just civil servants who have not been paid for over four months now. This is wickedness,” she cried out.
