It is my pleasure to inform you of the annual call for applications for the Fulbright African Research Scholar Program for the 2014/2015 academic year.

The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board is particularly interested in senior lecturers from the social sciences and humanities.

All applications MUST be submitted online on or before May 31, 2013.

This program, funded by the Department of State and administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), offers senior faculty members from universities in Africa including Nigeria the opportunity to conduct research at U.S. institutions for a minimum of three (3) months and a maximum of nine (9) months.

The selection process and the final award of grants are extremely competitive.

The Fulbright Scholar Program provides two types of grants:

-the Senior Research Program, which enables selected candidates to pursue individual research projects;

– and the Professional Development Program, which allows senior faculty members to spend 3 to 5 months at an American university or college to pursue professional interests and consult with colleagues in their field.

All applicants are required to specify for which of the two grant categories they wish to be considered.

Please note that awards are also available for 3 to 5 month activities on program and curriculum development for HIV/AIDS-related topics.

Unfortunately, this program does not provide an opportunity for lecturing.

As new users, applicants must create new accounts and are advised to follow the steps for preparing the application.

Applicants should seek the assistance of senior colleagues who are Fulbright alumni on their campuses.

In addition, an applicant must have at least 3 years of post-doctoral degree training or experience at the time of application. If you have questions regarding this program, please do not hesitate to contact me.

We look forward to receiving applications from your institution and encourage you to submit them on or before the deadline.
