Students and lecturers of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, on Monday, shunned the directive of the authorities of the school to resume for academic activities.

Findings at the university campus showed that the majority of the students were absent, while the lecturers also stayed away against the directive.

It was gathered that only the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), AAUA branch was in school for a brief meeting after which the members of the executive left the campus.

Although a few students were on campus to ascertain the position of things, they could not do anything tangible.

The vice chancellor of the university, Professor Femi Mimiko was also on campus in the morning and went round to ascertain the level of compliance with the directive.

However, authorities of the institution have said that the school had resumed in line with the directive issued last week.

The Principal Assistant Registrar, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Sola Imoru, said lecturers and students had returned to the campus with normal activities back on stream.

He said the faculty board meetings slated for the day were held as scheduled.

However, ASUU leadership in the institution has said that its members were yet to resume, saying the directive of the institution’s authorities should be ignored.
