The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) in Abia Polytechnic, Aba, on Saturday, 23rd August, 2014 sus-pended its 12 days old strike.

The union had on Aug. 12 embarked on strike following the Governing Council and management’s failure to pay lecturers’ salary arrears.

The ASUP Chairman, Mr Precious Nwakodo, said in Aba that the strike was suspended because the authorities of the polytechnic paid to two month arrears.

Nwakodo said that work would resume on Monday, Aug. 25.

He said that the governing council had in a letter dated July 10, 2014 and signed by its Chairman, Mr Christopher Enweremmadu, promised to pay two out of five months’ arrears.

The chairman expressed gratitude to the state government for the payment, adding that the remaining three months arrears would be paid when its subvention was released.
