81 Students Bag First Class At Federal University Of Abeokuta (FUNAAB)

No fewer than 81 graduating students bagged first class degrees at the 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 convocation of the Federal University Of Abeokuta (FUNAAB) on Saturday.

The institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, said in Abeokuta that of the 3,859 graduating students, 3,555 were for first degrees, while 304 were post-graduate students.

Oyewole said the Colleges of Animal Sciences, Livestock Production and Natural Sciences had 20 first class graduates each.

“This academic feat was due to the conducive and enabling environment which paved the way for our students to excel not only in the country but internationally.

“This is a university that keeps on emphasising that we don’t want our students to just go away from this school with the certificate alone, but with practical aspects of their learning,’’ he said.

He said the institution was committed to the provision of visionary leadership, sustainable management of resources and committed to providing world-class future leaders.

The Chancellor, Obi Ezobia, commended President Goodluck Jonathan for ensuring peace in various institutions, saying that the president was instrumental in the development of infrastructures in FUNAAB.

Ezobia urged the Federal Government to approve the institution’s proposal for the establishment of colleges of Medicine, Law and Social Sciences.

He said the diversification of specialised universities would enhance the nation’s education system.

Jonathan, Visitor to the Institution, said the Federal Government would continue to earmarked huge funds for education.

The president, represented by Prof. Julius Okojie, Executive Secretary, National University Commission, said that government would continue to seek the support of Nigerians on government policies on education. (NAN)
